Steel Monopole Octagonal Conical Pole AISC AS Standard Galvanized Industrial Steel Buildings With Internal Diaphragm
STEEL MONOPOLE ENGINEERING Steel Monopole Octagonal Conical Pole - AISC and AS Standard Galvanized Monopole with Internal Diaphragm

A monopole is only as reliable as what happens inside the shaft. This octagonal conical steel pole is detailed with internal diaphragms at every flange level, so bolt load from the joint is transferred into the shell through a stiffened ring rather than through the plate alone. The pole is engineered and documented against American and Australian practice, with AISC and AS criteria applied to member design, welding and galvanizing, and it is fabricated as an industrial steel building component that can be submitted for approval before a single plate is cut.

What the internal diaphragm actually does
  • Transfers flange bolt load into the pole wall, so the joint does not rely on local plate bending
  • Holds the polygonal section in shape and limits ovalisation under bending and wind reversal
  • Acts as a transverse stiffener, allowing a thinner shell than an unstiffened section of the same capacity
  • Separates the interior into compartments, which also helps cable management and moisture control
  • Positioned and welded at the shop, not fitted on site, so geometry is fixed before galvanizing
  • Drain and vent provisions detailed so the diaphragm does not trap solution during galvanizing

The governing standard is agreed at enquiry stage. Where a buyer specifies AISC or AS, the design report and drawings are prepared on that basis rather than converted afterwards.

Documentation issued with the pole
  1. Design calculation report stating the governing code, load case and utilisation
  2. Shop drawings and approval drawings for review before production
  3. Mill certificates traceable to heat number for each plate and section
  4. Welding procedure specifications and welder qualifications where required
  5. Non destructive testing records on request, by agreed percentage and method
  6. Galvanizing coating thickness report against the nominated standard
  7. Dimensional inspection report and trial assembly record for multi section poles
  8. Third party inspection such as SGS, BV or TUV can be arranged
Quality gates before shipment
  1. Material checked against certificate on arrival
  2. Fit up, camber and diaphragm position verified before welding
  3. Welds inspected to the agreed level and method
  4. Dimensions measured after galvanizing, not before, because coating and heat can move a dimension
  5. Flange flatness and hole alignment checked, then match marked and protected
  6. Sections bundled by length with bolt sets crated separately

Any item that fails a gate is corrected before packing, not after arrival on site.

Scope of customisation

Height, section shape, plate thickness, diaphragm spacing, flange and bolt class, coating system and accessory layout are all set by the project. Typical reference ranges run from 10 m to 60 m in height with plate thickness from 4 mm to 14 mm, but these are starting points for sizing, not limits offered as a fixed product. Send your drawing or your site data and the proposal is prepared against your code.

About us

Hangzhou FAMOUS Steel Engineering has been fabricating steel structures since 2000, with over 1,200 employees and steel structure works held under National Grade I Speciality Contractor qualification. Design, detailing, fabrication, galvanizing and finishing are carried out in house, so the pole you approve on the drawing is the pole that leaves the workshop.

Start with the governing code

Tell us the standard the project must satisfy, together with height, loading and quantity, and the design basis is confirmed before commercial discussion. Drawings in PDF, DWG or DXF are all acceptable.
